Powerless
On Wednesday, at 10.29 am the power in our office went out, taking with it the phones and the email.

Hands up all of you currently thinking that this would bring a few hours respite and would be welcomed.

Now factor in that no power also means no internet, no lights and no air conditioning and it becomes a slightly less appealing prospect.

I can honestly say that not being able to work, when I genuinely wanted to, was a frustrating and enlightening experience.

Frustrating that one thunder storm could wipe out my entire working day, and highlighted just how dependent upon 240 volts my work life is,

Enlightening because, realising that I enjoy my job is actually quite liberating. I may have days in which I am stuck in the office for hours, or the phone never stops, or things don't go my way, but at the end of the day I still enjoy it, and that's something which I don't always realise amidst the hassle of a busy day at my desk.
